Have you ever tried to create new habits – and failed? I have – and I’m willing to bet you have too.

But I’ve since discovered the secret to success: a health and wellness coach. It made such a difference in my life that I decided to become a Certified Wellcoach® myself.

I realize that ‘coaching’ can sound vague or confusing if you haven’t experienced it, so I wanted to give you a primer on what exactly a coach is – and how you can benefit from working with one.

Firstly, coaches aren’t advice-givers; we’re change agents. Catalysts if you will. This four-minute animated movie provides an excellent overview of how coaching works:

Coaches that specialize in health and wellness study the science of happiness and well-being to help you:

    • Uncover your innate desire for wellness
    • Discover your unique strengths and values
    • Set realistic, achievable goals
    • Overcome obstacles in your own way
    • Build confidence in a supportive environment that fosters success

We do this by:

    • Actively listening to you and your stories
    • Nurturing self-acceptance and self-respect
    • Engaging, energizing, and encouraging you
    • Celebrating your successes

What does working with a health and wellness coach look like?

    • Preparation: First you’ll be asked to complete a few online questionnaires in advance to help me understand your specific concerns, priorities, and health status.

    • Manifestation Consultation: In this 60-90 minute virtual session, we’ll explore your values, desired behaviours and outcomes, motivators, strengths, supports, and structures. From there, we’ll work together to design your personal wellness vision and, finally, we’ll map out your mission, three-month goals and first action steps.

    • Momentum Conversations: These 30-40 minute virtual conversations will take place weekly or bi-weekly, depending on your preference. We’ll explore your experience, successes, challenges and what you learned, and what you can put in place for the future. After that, we’ll set goals and plan for the upcoming week.

Through all that I do, my role (and goal) as a health and wellness coach is to provide the support you need to make lasting, positive lifestyle changes aligned with your health goals.
